Cotton has lot of significance. This one is called Gejje vastra which we offer to God Ganesha on Ganesh Chaturthi.

lookign at this gejje vastra - i recently noticed - can't remember where - that they made it differently - it was funny - they made this yellow thread and took pieces of cotton and wrapped around , instead of making it from cotton and apply turmeric/kumkum as appropriate.
