In India, we beleive snake as GOD. This picture is taken at Nimishamba temple.
People have offered their prayers with lot of Kumkum, harishina & flowers. There is a festival called 'ShashTi' which is specially for worshipping lord Subramanya(GOD related to snakes)!
'kallunaagarake haalannu erevaru jeeva naagarake kallesevaru... kallesevaru...
umDumDu daNidavage karekaredu uNisuvaru uNalilladavage naDe embaru... naDe embaru"
(People worship stone-idols of naaga, pour milk on it, whereas if they see a live snake, they try to kill it....)
Good picture.
