The Protien enriched Placenta

Your heart might skip a breath, thats what happened when I saw this photograph for the first time. I get to see/hear-about such photos with blood sheds, being a doctors wife.

Once saw a program on Discovery (or Nat Geo), where they showed a group of supposed gourmets. They had gathered for a dinner prepared by a master chef where the main course was prepared from a fresh Placenta.
Would that be considered a form of cannibalism?

It was gross - but with most gross things, you couldn't stop watching!

@Murali Partha: Was that a human placenta ? I mean if at all if you are talking about Cannibalism.
when people can eat flesh & bone of other animals(non-human) then placenta may be a choice for the main course.
Thinking about this will make me postpone my lunch - this is a different story :-(

Yes, human placenta. The newly delivered mom had given her permission and in fact had offered it quite voluntarily.

Well yes, some people do eat them - I think because other mammals eat theirs. Personally... :-(

*cough* i am quite embarrassed to offer this information - traditional chinese pp actually encourage the mom who has just given birth to eat the placenta (cooked in herbs) as a way of strengthening her body. it IS kinda gross to me, and so i never did it when i gave birth to my son! yikes :)

@spots: Prashanth told me that they use this as protien source to prepare medicines in pharma area. some truth are hard to hear!
